Zilbermanjx:Ashes, as I understand, even when seeming cold, can contain a tiny amber in their midst and ignite a spark even after 3 days of having been taken from a fireplace or woodstove. All they need is one minuscule amber still alive and a little breeze.

I do not burn candles in my house, EVER. it is just too easy for forget.. remove all fireplace ash from the house as soon as the job is done. should not be placed in garage or close to house... best to put in metal bucket and fill it with water...careful to not let it flash back on you. you can dump it out in safe place in yard as a chunk of ice.. in a day or 2 later..take care of it .. final clean up ..in the spring...
